2/12- HISTORIC COLD THIS WEEKEND

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE- WE'VE MADE IT-

For just the second time I can remember, everyone except the immediate shoreline is under a WIND CHILL WARNING. Everyone else is under a WIND CHILL WATCH.

To say that this weekend is going to be cold would be an extreme understatement. I expect temperatures Saturday night and Sunday morning to be between -5 and -20. To add insult to injury...there will be a strong northerly wind. Wind chill values will be between -25 and -40. OUCH. Please, please, please be safe as this is something that I have never seen before. This is amazingly cold.

The early part of next week looks to feature an inside runner-type system, with snow changing into a torrential rainstorm on Tuesday. This bears watching because of the frigid air in place, but it's going to be tough to get any sustained precipitation other than rain. Past that, much of next week looks seasonable and dry.

Today in weather history- February 12, 1958- Tallahassee, FL receives 2" of snow, the most recorded at that location, unsurprisingly. Although snow in Florida is exceedingly rare...it's not unheard of. In fact, snow showers reached Miami on January 19, 1977
