2/3- STORM WARNING and STORM WATCH- Rain Tonight, big trouble next week

Good Wednesday all-

Although most of this morning will be dry, a major rainstorm is about to make its' arrival this afternoon. I expect heavy rain to break out around noon, and it'll then pour all afternoon, with potentially even thunderstorms! I expect an average of around one inch of rain, with locally higher amounts in the storms. The rest of the week looks good, but it's the early part of next week I am concerned about.

On Tuesday, a very odd setup could yield a monster nor'easter for us in New England. The Monday storm is a miss to the south but that actually may set the stage for a bigger storm on Tuesday/Wednesday...In fact, both the Euro and GFS are very aggressive as a large trough will actually spawn two separate low pressures, which could come together almost directly over the 40/70 benchmark. I don't want to alarm people but the setup is extraordinarily similar to what ultimately yielded the Great Blizzard of 2013. I wouldn't say that's likely by any stretch of the imagination but...an extreme event is not out of the realm of possibility. My big concern is that, because it is not a classic nor'easter...it'll be very difficult to dodge this one, because there simply isn't anywhere else for it to go. The Euro...for example...seems to desire to drop over two feet of snow on much of the state.

Today in weather history- February 3 is one of those few days where absolutely nothing notable has happened in the weather world, but at this time last year, we were digging out from Winter Storm Darius, which dumped a foot of snow on the state. Just be glad that isn't happening now...but it may be very, very soon!
