2/15- Snowy President's Day, wet tomorrow

Good Monday all-

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is up for all of Connecticut from 1PM to 7AM tomorrow.

Well, it's going to be a rather snowy Monday but the precip will change over relatively quickly in most areas as a storm moves off to our west, introducing a strong southerly flow. My main concern for this system is the potential for icing...especially in the valleys and the higher elevations of the state. It's going to be a tough evening commute for those who have one to make. Tomorrow...the morning commute could have some issues, and I expect there will be some schools that delay in the spots that pick up enough ice to coat the roads. Beyond that...after some snow showers on Wednesday...the next storm threat does not come to the area until a week from Friday, 2/26 and we will have slightly above average temperatures for the foreseeable future.

Today in weather history- February 15, 1895- A historic day for the Gulf Coast, as incredible cold air coincides with a major storm...and drops tons of snow on the region. Brownsville, TX picks up six inches of snow (Yes, it's the last town from the Mexican border on the east coast of Texas, which gets hit by hurricanes far more often than even seeing a flake of snow), and a whopping 9" on New Orleans...but most impressively, Rayne (just west of Baton Rouge), gets TWO FEET OF SNOW.
