1/1- Nothing but Wicked Cold

Happy Friday everyone and for most, the last true day of the holiday season.

2016 is here, and with it comes a big swing in the pattern, as I must ask you to be ready for the coldest days of the year coming up next week. In fact, by Monday, we're going to be hard pressed to even reach 30 degrees, and lows will be in the single digits both Monday and Tuesday night for some people...but fortunately, that's still a ways off. Today is going to be pretty good with temps near 40 and increasing cloudiness. I can't even rule out some mood snow flurries this afternoon. They won't amount to anything, but it would be a pretty neat way to welcome in another year. Otherwise, no storms are in sight. In fact...we may not see any precipitation at all until 1/9...and that's still way off. Additionally, there are MAJOR signs of a coastal storm somewhere around 1/12, but again, it's way too far out there for any details.

Today in weather history- January 1, 1999- A major blizzard begins in the midwest, pummeling Chicago with 22" of snow, causing their local branch of the NWS to call it their second biggest blizzard of the 20th century (Behind a storm in 1967).

Enjoy the first day of 2016!
