Good Wednesday all-
Today is going to be rather chilly- it's going to be really tough to get anything more than about 30 degrees today as a high pressure system continues to be in control- and we are high and dry through the weekend with somewhat moderating temperatures (but I'd be surprised if we hit 40). Saturday morning could be entertaining for driving...and that's never good...thanks to a light precipitation event that will likely be freezing rain. Although it won't exactly be a big deal...it certainly will snarl the roads up (and likely the airports as well, naturally, since I have a flight out of BDL at 6...I'm watching closely...). Even worse, Sunday is going to be a positively torrential pouring rain- with cold temperatures as well. This is the storm that was hyped about early in the week and will not be snow. That's all for that one. In fact, the next chance for snow looks to hold off until a week from today.
Today in weather history- January 6, 1880- Somehow, Seattle, WA manages to pick up four feet of snow all at once...causing barns to collapse, along with making transportation impossible. What's interesting about this is that it's extraordinarily difficult to get snow in Seattle thanks to their proximity to the Pacific Ocean. The mountains east of Seattle, however, are among the snowiest places on Earth...so it is not a complete shock, but still, a four foot snowstorm is probably easily their biggest on record- especially since their average annual snowfall is 11".
