1/19- SEVERE STORM WATCH- Trending south?

Good Tuesday all-

Today is going to be absolutely frigid- temps will probably not reach 20 in most locations and that in itself provides dangerous weather...so please bundle up and wear layers- you will need them and won't regret it!! The rest of the week looks a touch warmer, thankfully, and no precipitation is expected through Friday afternoon.

All eyes then turn to the weekend, where a major blizzard remains a distinct possibility for all of Connecticut. The 0z GFS dropped 20-30" statewide...which is probably the extreme solution. My concern lies at the 6z GFS and the 0z Euro...both of which have shifted south a fair distance and show only a glancing blow (granted, keep in mind that a glancing blow from this storm is still one to two feet) so I'm not concerned about a total whiff yet...but the odds of 2013-esque snowfall totals probably dropped a bit today. That said, I won't release my first snowfall map until tomorrow afternoon anyway...so things can and will change. If I had to guess...the most likely range is probably 12-18 inches...which is still, obviously, a monsterous and crippling snowstorm, so please be prepared!! Additionally, any preparations should be made today to avoid the crowds, as blizzard watches will likely be required for our area tomorrow night...which will send everyone into a frenzy

This would yield 20-30"+

This would yield 10-15" with locally higher amounts near 2ft

This morning's model run compared to last night's. You can see the slight difference (and slightly lesser impact)

Today in weather history- January 19, 1989- Fairbanks, AK manages to record a whopping high temperature of a...eh who am I kidding- it's their record lowest high for the month of January as they experience NEGATIVE 41 DEGREE TEMPS.
