1/8- Some Ice

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE- You made it!

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for northern Fairfield and New Haven counties tonight

Today is going to be a rather nice day, especially considering that it is early January, with temps in the 40s and pretty much sunny throughout...at least until the evening, when some freezing rain could develop just in time to snarl the evening commute, but it should be extraordinarily light in nature...if it even happens...so just some extra time is necessary to be careful and not crash your car. After that, Sunday looks very, very moist with 1-2" of rain...but the rest of next week looks dry, except for Wednesday when 1-3" of snow are possible, which would be awful timing but it happens.

There are major signs of a monster storm in the vicinity for a week from Sunday, but we are way too far off for details.

IMPORTANT- Unfortunately, I am flying down to New Orleans tomorrow for the 2016 AMS conference...so I will not have regular access to a computer. I will still blog if I get a chance...but don't hold your breath. I'm going to ask that you please rely on local meteorologists...or go to tropicaltidbits.com and click on computer models...to determine the forecast for next weekend, and it's ABSOLUTELY worth keeping an eye on as that storm could be extreme to say the least.

Now, please try not to laugh but.

IN THE ATLANTIC- A subtropical low off the southeast coast has a decent chance to become Subtropical Storm Alex as it moves northeast away from the US. There have only been 4 tropical storms to ever form in the month of January on record...but this could be #5.

Wow.

For those of you wondering this year's list of tropical storm names is  Alex, Bonnie, Colin, Danielle, Earl, Fiona, Gaston, Hermine, Ian, Julia, Karl, Lisa, Matthew, Nicole, Otto, Paula, Richard, Shary, Tobias, Virgine, and Walter. You likely remember 2010's Hurricane Earl, which nearly struck New England, and you may well remember Hurricane Tomas, and the destruction it caused throughout the Carribean leading it (and Igor- which struck Bermuda as a cat3) to be retired

Today in weather history- January 8, 1953- Somehow, a single storm manages to drop 4" of ice on parts of Pennsylvania, which is absolutely ridiculous. Additionally, Connecticut received 20" of snow followed by that ice...yeah not exactly fun to clean up I would wager.
