12/18- Cold and Snowy tomorrow...close for Xmas

HAPPY FRIDAY- YOU MADE IT- XMAS IS JUST A WEEK AWAY!!!

Today is going to be rather mild and less wet than yesterday, but...it still will be unpleasant at times as rain will surely fall at times, especially in New London County. Tomorrow introduces average December temps (so 35-40) and snow flurries possible before we warm up yet again for next week and Christmas. The forecast for Christmas is interesting to say the least in so many ways. Some models have temps in the mid 60s and mostly cloudy skies...while the GFS has a very cold rain due to a coastal low that tracks right over SNE. If that was further southeast, it would be a significant snowstorm for Christmas Day...but I wouldn't hold my breath as it is about a 5% chance. That said...the forecast beyond Christmas looks significantly cooler than before...and I certainly am still watching the potential for a storm of some kind on or around New Years'.

The next chance for 3+" of snow is- >7 days away...as I don't think the 5% chance of snow on Xmas is really worth mentioning here. It's a HUGE long shot.

Today in weather history- December 18, 2009- Winter Storm Albert crushes Connecticut, dropping over a foot of snow on parts of the state. This massive storm impacted 14 states and killed 7 people, effecting the coast from North Carolina to Massachusetts. This is really the only memorable winter storm in Connecticut from 2009-10, but of course the following winter- 2010-11- is certainly among the legends of the region.

GFS model for Christmas morning. As you can see, it keeps slim hopes of a white christmas alive
