Good Tuesday all-
Today is going to be rather miserable- cloudy and somewhat chilly (though still far above average for mid-December) with temps in the mid-40s. I can't rule out flurries or showers in the eastern half of CT...with by far the best chance in New London county as the storm we've been watching for about a week now scoots by to our southeast. Going through this week, my generic thoughts have not changed much...except there is now an increased risk of rain on Friday.
The GFS model gave Connecticut a scare last night by putting out a major winter storm next Monday after a coastal storm developed along a cold front and passed over the 40/70 benchmark. Although it no longer shows this...it's not out of the realm of possibility, though it's unlikely enough (<20%) that no storm watch is yet required. There are still a few models showing it though...
All in all, expect this kind of weather for about the next 12 days or so. Beyond that...major snowstorms are likely to impact New England before the end of this month as temps and the North Atlantic Oscillation fall tremendously.
The next chance for 3+" of snow is- Monday (15%)
Today in weather history- December 8, 1938- La Mesa, CA records a 108 degree high temperature- the United States record for the month of December.
