Happy Christmas Eve-
Today is going to be a rainy day, but it'll be almost ludicrously warm. Today's forecast high is...wait for it...70!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, which will break the Xmas Eve record by a whopping 10 degrees!!! It's really unbelievable, but what's even funnier is that snow is in the forecast twice! next week. The two days in question are Tuesday and New Years' Eve (a week from today). The weekend looks moist, as a warm front moves through...but then literally throws itself into reverse and goes back through, making it more like a cold front- a very strange pattern that I have never seen before.
The storm on Tuesday will likely be a mess including everything. An early fair guess would be 3-6" of snow followed by 0.2" of ice followed by lots of rain. Of course, any cold air damming would have a huge impact as an all-frozen precip event with as much as twice the numbers stated above is not out of the realm of possibility...as the warmest it ever gets on Tuesday will probably be in the ballpark of 35- especially in the higher elevations. Timing of the storm will be huge as well- the earlier it comes, the bigger it would be.
The New Years' Storm appears to be a classic nor'easter, with all depending on the track and strength. Naturally, as its' a week out, I cannot say anything more than there is potential for a large snowstorm on New Years' Eve or New Years' Day- the ball drop in Times Square could be a really big mess if that happens!
I will not be blogging tomorrow for obvious reasons, so I want to take this time to wish everyone here a very Merry Christmas and hope that it is the best you've ever had. I will update on Saturday with the latest on the Winter Storm for Tuesday.
The next chance of (anyone in CT getting) 3+" of snow is- Tuesday, 55%
Also, there is a 40% chance on New Years' Eve, a major holiday, so it's worth mentioning here.
Today in weather history- Christmas Eve 2015- The east records remarkable temperatures, as 70s work as far north as New England, smashing records by as many as 10 degrees- you don't see that every day, and it certainly merits a mention here.
What also merits a mention is this- thoughts and prayers to those effected by the tornado in north Mississippi and Tennessee yesterday. That was absolutely brutal, especially right before Christmas.
